Examines in chief/ direct examination in a court room process?

Why did they want him to take the test? Did they smell the odour of alcoholic beverage? Was his speech slurred, eyes glassy? Was there an open bottle in the car? Did he take any field sobriety tests? Did he admit he'd had anything to drink? If the guy refused the test, how did they get a reading?
